Handling products that are designed to provide protection and security requires technical expertise coupled with a customised logistics concept. And because the processes involved are often delicate, complex and challenging, it’s good to know that you have an expert partner at your side.

ATMs, safes, lockers, wardrobes and cabinets for weapons, explosives, chemicals, drugs, pesticides, valuable documents and keys – all such items present specific logistical and technical challenges. For example, a chain of fitness centres in Austria ordered a consignment of lockers which had to be collected from the supplier, delivered to various new locations, moved to the point of use, unpacked and assembled. And all of this in a very short time, because the customer wanted the Austria-wide rollout of 1,000 locker units within a week. Just as challenging was the delivery on behalf of a Vienna-based chemicals manufacturer of various cabinets for chemicals, pesticides and other substances carrying the risk of explosion or chemical burns. A job of this nature is made difficult not only by the sheer size of such cabinets but also by the route that has to be taken to the point of use in the basement, negotiating narrow corridors and flights of steps along the way. Karl Köberl, Head of Business Development at hi-tech logistics specialist tectraxx: “This type of commission generally involves more difficult conditions than the standard door-to-door delivery because of a combination of product characteristics such as size, sensitive materials, customer specifications or circumstances on site, the time factor and also the need to work with other service partners, certain types of vehicles or equipment and other special devices. So there’s always a catch somewhere.”

Extensive client portfolio
Fitness centres and chemical companies are just two types of customer that call on the services of tectraxx. Austria’s top insurance companies are increasingly upgrading their old filing cabinets for licence and registration certificates to modern lockable units in order to prevent document theft. The new cabinets are usually distributed by tectraxx on behalf of the insurance companies to the registration authorities in Austria. Because these offices have different opening times, it is vital to make arrangements in advance and to comply precisely with the agreed delivery time. The large cabinets weighing up to 130 kilos are delivered to the point of use, unpacked and assembled on site. Even more complex is the movement of safes on behalf of a Tyrolean assembly and distribution company. “One of these safes can weigh anything up to 1,000 kilos and require at least a four-man team to get it up to the third floor because there either isn’t a lift or it won’t fit in,” says Dragan Djenadic, Key Account Manager at tectraxx. “If necessary, we have to hoist the item by crane through an upstairs window because it is too wide for the stairwell. The customer is responsible for having the structural strength of the building checked and approved if the safe is to be anchored to the floor or the wall using heavy-duty rawl bolts of up to 25 centimetres in length.” Djenadic works on the principle that “for every problem there is a solution”. tectraxx often fulfils the role of general contractor to such business customers. This ranges from liaising with the police (e.g. informing them of the temporary disabling of alarm systems) to arranging for the necessary structural, fitting and electrical installation work to be done.
